Crimson Desert’s open world is huge and full of secrets. When I first started, there were many little tricks I didn’t discover until later. This article collects the ten most useful things I wish I’d known from the start. If you’re just beginning your journey through Pywel, these tips will help you save time, gather resources, and become more powerful.
1 – Use your lamp arm to interact with objects and find memory fragments
One of my biggest early frustrations was figuring out how to talk to NPCs or interact with items. The game’s interaction prompts can be fussy. If you hold your character’s lamp‑raising arm straight out, the reticle locks onto people or objects more reliably. This makes it much easier to start conversations or pick up loot. When exploring ruins or ancient sites, the same lamp pose reveals hidden memory fragments – raising your arm will make them shimmer in the environment so you don’t miss them.
2 – Unlock Abyss Nexus fast‑travel points early
Pywel is enormous, so fast travel is essential. There are two kinds of fast‑travel points: Abyss Nexus (simple teleports) and Abyss Cresset (usually tied to a puzzle). To unlock a nexus, simply step on it. Before you activate them, these spots appear on the map as mysterious energy icons. You can use the Blinding Flash ability to reveal them: on a controller hold LB+RB, or on keyboard hold Ctrl and the left mouse button. The blinding flash sends out a pulse that highlights blue circular lights marking points of interest. When you see one, head over and stand on the pad to activate it. Once unlocked, the nexus appears as a blue icon and you can teleport there from your map.
3 – Complete “Restarting the Chocolate Factory” to get the Gearmelt Confectionery Pack
While exploring you’ll pick up different backpacks that provide passive bonuses. The Gearmelt Confectionery Pack is arguably the best early‑game backpack because it auto‑generates food. Instead of constantly hunting animals or spending money on provisions, this pack will periodically add snacks to your inventory. To get it, finish the side quest “Restarting the Chocolate Factory.” Equip the pack and you’ll rarely need to worry about healing items again.
4 – Raid red camps for easy money, food and materials
The map has large red‑flagged camps filled with soldiers. Clearing these camps is one of the fastest ways to accumulate cash and supplies. After defeating the enemies, break every crate and open every food barrel – they often contain large stacks of currency, meats and crafting materials. Don’t rush to complete the associated quest objectives; instead, make sure you pillage every storage area before turning in the quest. You can sell surplus weapons and consumables to merchants for a tidy profit.
5 – Unlock Cliff’s skill tree to expand your combat options
The game’s combat becomes much more dynamic after you unlock the skill tree for Cliff, one of the early companions. His advanced skills let you chain combos, juggle enemies and dispatch bosses faster. You will need to collect special artifacts to unlock each tier of his tree. Once you’ve invested in Cliff’s abilities, experiment with different skill combinations to find combos that suit your play style.
6 – Master the parry to break boss stagger bars
Big bosses hit hard, but their attacks can be turned against them. By timing your parries, you can stun bosses and dramatically reduce their stagger bar. When the boss telegraphs a swing, hold the parry button just before the attack connects. A successful parry briefly stuns the foe, letting you land several heavy hits. Repeating this will quickly deplete the stagger bar, opening the boss to a critical attack. This approach is often safer and faster than trying to dodge everything.
7 – Slot abyss gear to boost your power level
Your overall power is determined by the quality and synergy of your equipment. Upgrading weapons and armor is important, but the biggest increases come from slotting abyss gear into your equipment. Each abyss gear piece provides different stat bonuses or effects. Pair complementary abyss items (for example, one that boosts stamina regeneration with another that increases damage) to enhance your preferred play style. Don’t be afraid to experiment – the right combination can significantly increase your survivability and damage output.
8 – Seek out special equipment with unique abilities
Beyond abyss gear, some rare equipment pieces grant unique benefits. For instance, certain trinkets display enemy health bars, while others highlight nearby mining veins or foraging spots. These items make exploration and combat more efficient. Keep an eye out for unusual loot drops or side quests that reward special equipment – you might discover abilities that completely change how you play.
9 – Use Blinding Flash to solve puzzles
Many puzzles involve routing power or activating hidden mechanisms. If you’re stuck, try using Blinding Flash in the puzzle area. The pulse highlights energized cables versus inactive ones, and sometimes the room will glint in spots that hint at the correct sequence. When you notice a shimmering light or path, follow it – the developers often hide subtle clues that become obvious with this ability.
10 – Invest in stamina early
Your stamina bar governs many actions: sprinting, climbing, flying with your glider, and certain combat moves. Upgrading stamina as soon as possible lets you travel farther and climb higher without resting. This leads to more exploration opportunities and makes intense battles easier. Don’t neglect other stats, but prioritize stamina upgrades in the early game – they pay dividends throughout your adventure.
